So, this update is for the last couple days...
On Monday I spent the day with Bonnie, Ben, and Dennis, all of whom I know from Potsdam. I knew, Bonnie, of course, and Dennis I had known, but Ben was really the only person whom I hadn't met before...suprisingly enough. Bonnie called me around 11:30, and she actually woke me up...lol cause I dont really get out of bed until noon. She asked me if I wanted to head to the beach. I, of course, not seeing her since Dec, instantly said, sure.
Ben picked me up in his 1980-something Toyota Cressida, with an interior comparable to my 94 Marquis. We headed to this beach called Black Pond. It was a cool little beach. Non-commercial, so it was free to get in. We spent the bulk of the afternoon just hanging out there, going in the water, laying in the sun. I havent gotten this much color since well...years. My whole back is burned red, and my ears are kind of pink. I cant see back there, but I'll bet its starting to peel.
So, after the beach, Ben brought me home, I showered, and changed into my nice Abercrombie Polo, and we all went to dinner. Dinner was the (now, not-so-new Pizza Hut on Arsenal.) I had never been there, so I was looking forward to a nice new place to eat. Nice is hardly the word. I must say I was rather disappointed. The food was nothing but average run-of the-mill Pizza Hut. Which like I said, wasnt bad, but it really wasnt that good. Plus, the service by the wait staff also left something to be desired.
After dinner, we went back to Ben's house, and then it was up to Kingston to take Bonnie home. It was nice to see Bonnie again. While I havent lost touch with my friends from Potsdam, it's difficult to see everybody anymore, because everybody lives all over the state. When we took Bonnie home, she was very gracious, and offered us all alcohol. For those of you who know me, I'm not one to refuse a beer. I sampled a light Pilsner called Sleeman's. All in all not bad. After a couple of those, I then had a glass of this Austrailian red wine. That too was also good. I had never been a fan of wine in the past, but for some reason, that night, I preferred the wine over the beer. Must be because I'm reading The Godfather.
I'd never been to Kingston at night before. Anywhere in Canada, either. It was cool to be on Sir John A MacDonald Blvd, with all the lights from all the attractions illuminating the clear night sky. On the car ride home, I had to take a leak so bad. I had gone before I left, but with a stomach full of 3 drinks, it wasnt long before I had to relieve myself again. We pulled over in this truckstop, and I had to find the bathroom. I went into the resteraunt, and remember, this is at like, 11:45 at night. I approach her carefully, as her back was turned, for who knows what peril may be lurking on the other side. She turns around, and smiles at me with a few slots missing on her grill, if you get my drift.
After my inquiring as to the whereabouts of the john, her smile turns to a half frown, as she mumbles, "to the right." My guess is she was probably hoping that I was there to eat. As I stood there relieving myself, the thought came to my mind about the customs officers asking if we were going to leave anything in Canada. I always smile to myself whenever they ask that, because secretly I wish I could be a smartass and say, well, "yeah, I'll probably take a shit" or something like that. God knows what they'd do to me if I actually said that.
Back on the road, riding with the windows open, I could smell the nice warm summer air. And, I dont mean plain ol' land air. I mean, the air over the river on the T.I. bridge with a less than 100% humidity, summer air. To me, there is nothing else quite like this in the world. To each and everybody who curses Watertown, and the area we live in, I say to hell with you. Just think of what if would be like to live in the midwest. No water around. Just LAND and Land AND LAND. Can you say boring?
Finally got home about 12:15, hopped on the computer, thanked Bonnie for a great day, and then ate and went to bed.
2 days later, I'm sitting here typing this, going to Long Island this weekend, got a full stomach, and checking account, and yeah...life is good. Amen to truth and justice in the American way...or at least until I'm 21...The Canadian way...haha
